These earrings are a follow up from a previous commission to re-purpose some old gold rings into a new wedding band. The gold was melted down and formed into 2mm square wire with plenty to make a wedding ring and have some leftover for a future project.
So it brought a smile to my face to hear from Hannah again about using the rest of her gold for her mum’s birthday this summer! It was lovely to see this diamond ring back on my bench for a clean and polish as well as matching it to a bespoke shaped wedding band. The ring had worn very well and has clearly been looked after as cleaning and polishing was a quick job!
I originally made the diamond ring quite some time ago from 18ct Fairtrade white gold with an ethically sourced large white diamond. This ring was commissioned by a customer looking for some old gold and diamond rings to be remodelled into something she could wear everyday for her 25th wedding anniversary. It was important to Cat to keep the sentimental value of the old rings and so I removed the diamonds and then her gold was refined and formed into new sheet metal for the new ring, with a little extra recycled gold added to make up the weight.
