If you've already had a browse through my shop or gallery, you may have noticed that I love a colourful gemstone. It really is incredible how many different cuts, colours, shapes and sizes are available and one of the best bits of my job is finding the perfect gemstone for a unique piece of jewellery.
It just so happens that over the years I've collected a few gemstones that are waiting for the right person to come along and select it. I've now started listing these gems on my website ready to be selected for something unique. If you're interested in commissioning me to make a piece of jewellery with one of these gems, please get in touch.
Gems can be set into a variety of styles, such as this pear cut teal blue sapphire and round champagne diamond. These are set in 18ct Fairmined yellow gold on a Fairmined silver ring.

Ethical Sourcing
Each of my gemstones are carefully selected from a small group of trusted suppliers who are fully transparent and sustainable about the origin of the gems they supply. I have some information on my ethical policy page if you'd like to know more, but please ask if you'd like to know more about the provenance of a specific gemstone.
A few examples
I will be adding more to the catalogue of my gemstone stock so keep checking back.
Of course, I love to go hunting for gems and so if you have something in mind then please ask. If you're browsing my gems and like a particular cut and have a favourite colour I will do my best to find that perfect combination!
If you want to go really specific then sapphire and tourmaline are probably your best bet as they come in such a wide range of cuts and colours. However if you have a more general specifications, e.g. you like softer edges such as round, oval and cushion cuts rather than sharp edged rectangles, hexagons - or visa versa - then there is a wide range to choose from.
Engagement Rings
If you've had some jewellery made by me before, you'll know that I don't really do 'rules' around jewellery. So when it comes to engagement rings - or wedding, or eternity rings - I don't believe you have to have a traditional stone. A solitaire diamond ring is beautiful and if that's what you love then absolutely you should go for it. But if that's not your thing then you do you! I increasingly make these special rings with a wide range of incredible gems, such as this hexagonal green sapphire gold engagement ring -

I absolutely love the boldness of this ring as an engagement ring. The hex sapphire is a beautiful green with yellow flashes, and the little white diamond on one side adds a cheeky flash of brightness. In this commission I set the hexagonal sapphire to one side and so the wedding band was shaped to fit.
My only word of caution is that you should think about how you will wear a piece of jewellery and be honest with yourself about your lifestyle and how much wear and tear your jewellery will need to withstand. As engagement rings are worn all day everyday, then diamonds and sapphires are a sensible choice as they can stand up to everyday life. However this doesn't mean that you can't still have some fun with shapes, cuts, colours and setting style!
Working with Your Gemstones
Of course a big part of my jewellery is working with client's gold and gemstones. You may call this recycling, remodelling, repurposing or reimagining but the result is the same - your sentimntental jewellery is given a new lease of life in a new piece of bespoke jewellery.
Sometimes a client comes to me with a stash of inherited jewellery that is either broken, doesn't fit or just isn't your style and so I rework this into something that suits you. As part of this I may recommend having your gemstone polished or possibly re-cut if it is scuffed or damaged.
Here are a few examples of client's gems in new bespoke jewellery -

I hope all of this has inspired you and if you would like to begin a discussion about sourcing a specific gemstone then please drop me a line, I'd love to hear from you.
